This complaint was remedied in the next game, Jedi Academy. My only tiny complaint is that you can't customize Kyle's Force power selection in any way, like you could in the previous game and expansion I understand why they did it this way - like Deus Ex, your skill/Force power selection would dictate what you could reach (especially how much you invested in Force Jump). The FPS is well executed, the lightsaber combat has no equal in any other Star Wars game, the Force powers are extremely fun to play with, and the levels are (for the most part) well designed and evocative of the Star Wars universe. I hesitated to keep going after all that Mysteries of the Sith put me through but I'm glad I swallowed my pride and gave it a try. Aside from that though, if you are willing to put up with those frustrations, Jedi Knight 2 is definitely one of the best games in this series. It wasn't as egregious as Mysteries of the Sith, but it still was inexcusably confusing and the game loses two points over this alone. It is so frustrating considering the game gets nearly everything else right except for this. By 2002 the whole "where the heck do I go" mentality with level design in FPS games was widely disliked, and unless you're specifically making the level about solving puzzles I should not be expected to make the leaps in logic the game constantly expects, whether that's finding that one tiny air vent passage in a massive open area or Force jumping up to the one ledge I can hardly see.

Frequently, it's too difficult to figure out where to go next. One problem with this game that seriously affects me from giving it a "great" rating though has to be the level design. Some of the late game levels also have water that wrecks your mobility and disables your lightsaber which I wasn't fond of either. They could have really cut back on the number of them in some of the levels. It became a frustrating pixel hunt of where the beams were coming from and it was thoroughly unenjoyable to fight back against them. The biggest frustration were the sniper enemies - they had pinpoint accuracy on you and could get you from thirty miles off. Unfortunately a few problems still bog this game down. The game's setting and plot really helped keep me invested all the way through. The story too helps tie a lot of it together, with quite a few returning characters and plenty of new ones as well. You often had to approach each level quite differently too due to their radically different layouts and that helped keep the game interesting. We got back alleys in the sky, Imperial bases, outdoor areas, and much more. The levels themselves have plenty of variety here too. Of all the games in the series I have played so far, this was the one that finally struck a perfect balance and is easily what made this so much more enjoyable to play than the past games. If need be though, you still have plenty of ranged weapons to get you through other situations as well, such as when enemies are too far away or you need to get explosive. Some of the Force moves you had included a Push, Pull, Lightning, Heal, and more. It was so fun to be able to plow through loads of stormtroopers and figure out what Force moves were best per the situation.

Kyle has finally gotten competent enough at blocking enemy fire and slashing enemies that I finally saw myself heavily relying on lightsaber combat, which is exactly how it should have been all along. That is, the lightsaber and Force combat isn't just an afterthought, it's a huge part of the game. Compared to the last game, this one finally puts the "Jedi" in Jedi Knight once and for all. Back with a vengeance, he slowly finds himself wrestling with emotions as he uncovers a much grander scheme than he anticipates. But when a series of events threatens what he holds near and the galaxy as a whole, he feels no choice but to pursue it again. Could Jedi Knight 2 finally be the game I was hoping for all along? Following the events of Mysteries of the Sith, Kyle Katarn has vowed to swear off his relationship with the Force once and for all. And the less said about Mysteries of the Sith, the better. I didn't hate Jedi Knight per se, I just felt it didn't live up to the hype and had very unrefined Jedi combat, with me finding myself relying still on guns. You would think my experiences with those would forever have turned me away from the series. 80% PCI truly can't believe I continued with this series after playing Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 and its expansion.
